Excellent BA Amex Card offers: Closing Soon

American Express is running one of its biggest BA Amex bonuses in recent years. If you have not taken advantage of it yet, you have until 6 October 2026 to do so.

The offer

Apply for the British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card and get approved by 6 October 2026, spend £6,000 in your first three months, and Amex rewards you with 60,000 Avios — this is double the usual 30,000!

Running alongside it: the free BA Amex Card's bonus is doubled to 10,000 Avios (spend £2,000 in 90 days).

Please note the usual conditions apply: no bonus if you've held either personal BA Amex card in the past 24 months. The good news is - you are still eligible if you are already a cardholder of an Amex card such as Membership Reward or Cashback cards, which belong to different card families of Amex.

You can boost this further through Amex's Refer a Friend scheme. If your spouse or partner already holds an Amex card, they can refer you and earn extra Avios or cash incentives.

Why 6 October is an important date?

Now: Premium Plus earns 1.5 Avios per £1 on general spend, and a strong 3 Avios per £1 on British Airways and BA Holidays spend.

From 7 October: The rates converge into a single flat 1.25 Avios per £1 — on every spend.

So if you're a genuine BA loyalist who puts flights, holidays, or a meaningful chunk of spend through British Airways directly, this offer is particularly useful to you as this should greatly offset the impact from the reduction in earn rate on British Airways and BA Holidays spend. Put another way: earning the same 30,000 Avios organically through the current 3x BA rate alone would normally require £10,000 of spend directly with British Airways. But here, with this offer, the Avios is rewarded upfront rather than requiring ongoing spend to accumulate the same total.

Is 60,000 Avios actually worth £6,000 of spend?

At a working Avios valuation of 1.0–1.2p, 60,000 Avios is worth roughly £600–£720. Against £6,000 of spend you were likely doing anyway, that's a return that easily beats almost any cashback card on the market.

Add the ongoing earn (1.5 Avios/£1 on the £6,000 itself, before the rate drops) and you're looking at closer to 69,000 Avios in year one once the qualifying spend is folded in. That's meaningfully better than the free card's 10,000-Avios equivalent, even accounting for the £300 fee, which the pro-rata refund makes low-risk if you decide the card isn't for you afterward.

Free BA Amex

  • Fee: Free
  • Min. income: £15k
  • Current sign-up bonus: 10,000 Avios (normally 5,000)
  • Earn: 1x general, 1x BA spend (unchanged)
  • Companion Voucher: 12mo, economy only
  • APR: 29.1%

Other good news: From 1 April 2027, the Premium Plus also introduces a new way to earn Tier Points through everyday spend, 1 per £10, capped at 3,000 points a year.

The verdict

These are excellent offers from Amex. The boosted offers can greatly compensate for the potentially slower build-up of Avios due to the lower conversion rate on British Airways and BA Holiday after 6 October 2026.
